2026 PIT AND HIC DATA PRESENTATION

May 21, 2026 By NBHSPN

The City of New Bedford’s Office of Housing & Community Development, acting in its capacity as the Continuum of Care’s (CoC’s) Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) lead, and on behalf of the CoC, has completed its 2026 “Point In Time” (PIT) count creating a census of those individuals and families experiencing homelessness within the Continuum of Care (all of Bristol County except for Fall River). The data includes those who were both sheltered (living in emergency or transitional housing) and unsheltered (on the streets/in places not meant for human habitation). Concurrent with that PIT count was the development of the CoC’s “Housing Inventory Count” (HIC) providing an inventory of specific emergency, transitional and permanent housing opportunities for those experiencing homelessness within the (COC).

The results from the 2026 PIT and HIC have been submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) consistent with HUD expectations. This data provides important information about those experiencing homelessness as well as the CoC’s portfolio of shelter and housing at a given time.

For a look at data highlights for the BCCC’s PIT and HIC from 2026, check out the following PowerPoint: PIT HIC PRESENTATION.2026.

There is also a one page HIC PIT SNAPSHOT 2026 available here for a quick summary of findings from the count.
